The goal of the project is the development and establishment of a transcurricular, interdisciplinary micro-degree program “Leibniz AI Academy” at the Leibniz Universität University of Hannover (LUH), in which students from different study paths can acquire competencies in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). The courses are additionally offered as continuing education for interested parties from industry and other organizations. The courses are based on a flexible didactic hybrid concept and allow for both Flipped Classroom with classroom sessions, as well as online participation. Through a multidisciplinary concept, AI competencies are not only taught in computer science, but also in the broad range of courses offered at LUH (e.g. mechanical engineering, Geosciences, Personalized Medicine, Mathematics, Teaching STEM subjects). The modularized and differentiated course program empowers learners to identify potential applications in their disciplines or businesses, develop predictive predictive models, and to critically reflect on their opportunities and limitations. For this purpose, the interdisciplinary consortium integrates the specific requirements of the subjects in the conception of subject-specific micro-degree curricula. This is made possible by domain-specific courses and a high degree of modularization of the course units. The design of the course units is based on current findings in the field of instructional design and follows constructivist principles. The courses consist of, among other things, short videos, quizzes, interactive exercises, programming tasks and projects. Thereby also problem-based learning is taught, so that learners develop practical solutions (also cooperatively) in realistic scenarios. The offer is supported, evaluated, and continuously developed by subprojects from computer science and further education didactics.
